Robert K. Clynes, 74, of Manalapan, NJ, formerly of Princeton, NJ, died Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ.
Born in Knoxville, TN, Robert was a longtime Princeton resident.
Robert graduated from the NJ School for the Deaf in West Trenton, NJ in 1964. Prior to that he attended the Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis, Missouri from 1946 to 1958 and the Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton, Missouri from 1958 to 1960.
He held several jobs in the Princeton and Pennington areas including Howe Nursery, Princeton University, Princeton Windsor News Service and most recently the Princeton Township Recycling Center where he worked from 1984 until retiring in 2008.
Although deaf, nothing was an obstacle for Robert as his working career shows. He was a strong willed man who was quiet by nature. He would greet everyone with a smile and a handshake on his daily routine of visiting people and places in Princeton. Robert enjoyed time spent sitting on the bench in Palmer Square with the car service drivers who knew him as "Bobby." He loved breakfast at the local diner. He also enjoyed a good steak or pork chop while engaging with the staff at the many restaurants around town where everyone knew his name. For a change of pace, he would ride the train into Penn Station just for a meal at Tracks.
He and his OK sign and Thumbs Up will be missed by all who knew him.
Predeceased by his Brother, T. Byron Clynes in 2014, Robert is survived by his cousin Linda C. Clynes of Morganville, NJ.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 9:00AM in the Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Avenue, Princeton, NJ followed by burial in Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
Visiting hours are Sunday, July 2, 2017 from Noon until 4:00PM at the funeral home.
