Obituary

Omer Faruk Turnacioglu, MD, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away of natural causes on January 15, 2016 at the Meadow Lakes Senior Living community in East Windsor, NJ. He was a long‐time resident of East Brunswick, New Jersey.

Dr. Turnacioglu was born on June 5, 1928, in Kayseri, Turkey. He graduated from Istanbul Medical School in 1954 and completed postgraduate training in anesthesiology in the United States and Canada. He served as a staff anesthesiologist at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, for many years before he and his colleagues opened a same‐day surgical center in East Brunswick. Dr. Omer, as he was known by coworkers and patients, was well‐loved by the operating room staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the SurgiCenter.

Over the years, he was very active with the Turkish community in New Jersey. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, playing poker, reading historical fiction, and watching documentaries. He showed great courage in coming to the United States and creating a new life for himself and his family. He provided an example for his sons to pursue academic and professional success. In addition, he welcomed other Turkish families to central New Jersey and supported their efforts to settle in the area.

His first marriage was to Tulay Cingillioglu in 1963. In 1970, Dr. Turnacioglu married Lise Hegland. He is survived by his sister Faize; his four sons and daughters‐in‐law, Turgay and Theresa, Kenan and Kristin, Sinan and Caitlin and Erdal and Lisa and seven grandchildren, Lauren, Ella, Maxwell, Donovan, Sofia, Grandon, and Leyla.

Graveside services were held on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Jersey State Memorial Park, Millstone Township, NJ.
