Obituary

Manuel Eduardo Moncada passed away on July 21, 2026, at the age of 83.

Manuel was born in the port city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. He was part of a large family, growing up with his mother, several sisters, a brother, and many aunts and uncles. Throughout his early education, his teachers consistently remarked that he was an excellent student. Unable to continue his studies, however, he began working in metal shops in Guayaquil. Among his favorite activities were attending local soccer matches and enjoying street food late at night -- or even as the sun was rising on his way back to his neighborhood.

Manuel came to the United States in the early 1970s, where he met the woman who would become his wife, Damary. They met in Providence, Rhode Island, as neighbors in the same building -- she lived on the first floor, and he on the second. At the time, his closest companion was a beloved black-and-white cat named Sylvester. Manuel spent more than three decades working in and managing metal shops in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, earning recognition for never missing a day of work and for his exceptional work ethic.

He was an avid lover of nature and never met an animal he did not love. He was known for gently picking up bees that had fallen asleep in the sun on his front porch and placing them in the shade, where they would awaken and fly off to continue pollinating. The thought of any animal meeting an untimely death deeply upset him. He enjoyed taking daily walks with his wife. He was an avid reader, followed international news closely,  was passionate about politics in Latin America, and loved watching movies, both old and new.

Together with his wife of nearly fifty years, Damary, Manuel raised their son, Eduardo, with unconditional love and unwavering support. They helped put him through college and graduate school and later helped him and his wife raise their own family. Manuel was, simply, purely selfless, always thinking of others before himself.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Damary Moncada; his son and daughter-in-law, Eduardo and Angie Henderson Moncada of Princeton, New Jersey; his grandchildren, Elisio (19) and Nacine (14); and many family members in Ecuador and around the world. Manuel will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and will never fail to bring a smile through memories of his gentle wit and understated sense of humor.

A private family service will be held for Manuel on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Kimble Funeral Home in Princeton, New Jersey.
