Obituary

Leonard L. ("Len") Blaisdell, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed on, Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Leonard was born on October 18, 1926, to Ruth (Wedge) and Fred Blaisdell of Hyde Park, Massachusetts; graduated from Hartford, Connecticut, High School in 1944; and then served in the U.S. Navy for the duration of World War II. A gift for comprehending the mechanics of everyday objects led to his completion of a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1950.

He married Estella Joy Bell on December 24, 1951, and together they raised two children in Medway, Massachusetts.

His lifetime achievement of seven registered U.S. patents during his working career at GTE gave him much satisfaction.

A lifelong love of the State of Maine began with childhood summers at Pleasant Pond in Turner and culminated in collaborating with his wife Joy to have their vacation cottage built on Biscay Pond in Bremen.

A devoted member of the Christian Science Church, Leonard served in various volunteer capacities, including many years as an usher at The Mother Church in Boston.

He leaves his wife Joy, a son and a daughter and their spouses, three grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and their families.
