Judith Hope
Attride
d. Aug 21, 2022
Somerset
Judith Hope Attride (formerly Gaynair), was born on January 19, 1946 in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, and passed away on Sunday night, August 21, 2022 in Plainsboro, NJ. She is one of four children raised by parents, Vincent and Lucille Gaynair, both of whom are deceased. Judith attended Wolmer's School for Girls in Jamaica, where she obtained her Higher School Certificate (HSC issued by England Educational Standards) and was Cub Scout Master for the Harborview Primary School pack for three years from 1961 to 1963. Upon graduation, Judith worked as a Foreign Exchange Cashier at both Barclays Bank and First National City Bank (now Citibank) from 1964 to 1980.
Judith met her beloved husband, Delano Attride, at Barclays Bank Training School in 1965. On November 20, 1971, at the age of 25, she married Delano, and they have celebrated 51 years of marriage. Judith and Delano have two daughters, Sharon and Selma. In 1980, their family of four migrated to the United States from Jamaica and lived in Bronx, New York. In 1985, Judith and her family moved to New Jersey and settled in South Brunswick. Following their daughters' graduation from college, she moved to Somerset, New Jersey with her husband, Delano, where they resided until her recent passing.
When Judith arrived in the United States, she secured a position at The City University of New York as Faculty Secretary in the Anthropology department, and she continued to work there until 1993. She then went to work at the Princeton Theological Seminary as Faculty Secretary until she retired in January 2017.
Judith, aka Judy to many family and friends, was taken way too soon, and leaves behind innumerable family and friends who treasured her kindness and wonderful spirit, not to mention her extensive talent in crocheting, baking, and singing. Judith will be deeply missed and is survived by her husband, Delano Attride, her daughters, Sharon (husband Dale and granddaughters, Margaret and Meredith), and Selma (partner Robert), her brother Vincent Gaynair (wife Jean and children Karen, Sean, and Karl), as well as her nieces and nephew (Jennifer Minto-Hinton, Kathryn Basanta-Henry, Michelle Minto, Shelly Minto-Walker; and Dave Robotham) from her predeceased siblings (sister Jean Minto and sister Dawn Robotham, respectively), and other grandnieces and grandnephews as well as other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 PM EST, at the Kimble Funeral Home in Princeton, NJ on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Kendall Park, NJ at 10:00 AM EST on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, followed by internment at Holy Cross Cemetery at 840 Cranbury South River Road in Jamesburg, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Franklin Food Bank or other charity that is important to you.
