Joy Bell Blaisdell, dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed on, Thursday, December 3, 2015.
Named Estella Joy Bell when she was born on December 24, 1930, to Estelle Merril (Himebaugh) Bell and Clifford Andrew Bell of Union City, Michigan, she graduated from high school in Marshall, Michigan, in May 1949. Early trained in music and art by her mother, she played piano and double bass, sang in church, and played tuba for her high school marching band. She could also draw and paint, and she passed along her knowledge of both music and art to her own children.
Moving to Boston after high school, she met Leonard Loyal Blaisdell, and they married in her parents' home in Marshall on December 24, 1951. Together they raised their two children, Kathryn and Matthew, in Medway, Massachusetts.
A lifelong member of the Christian Science Church, she served in a number of capacities, including that of church soloist. As a Sunday school teacher she particularly valued teaching young children their first lessons in the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount.
She shared her husband's love for family and for the State of Maine, and collaborated with him to have a vacation cottage built on Biscay Pond in Bremen, where they vacationed for a number of years not far from relatives.
Predeceased by her parents and step father, her sisters, and in-laws, and in 2013 by Leonard, her husband of 61 years, she leaves her son and daughter and their spouses, three grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and their families.
