Janet Caplan Levy of Philadelphia, PA, died Sunday, January 10, 2010, at the age of 73, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Scranton, PA, she attended Skidmore College, where she met her husband, Saul Yermie Levy. They were married June 16, 1957. Janet continued her studies at Hunter College, receiving a BA in English Literature in 1958. She and her husband moved to Princeton, NJ in 1959, where they lived for more than 25 years and raised a family. Janet earned a Masters degree in English literature from Rutgers University in 1968, after which she entered the workforce. She was co-director of a program to aid migrant farm workers in North Brunswick, NJ. From there, she worked many years in marketing communications for Mathematica of Princeton, NJ and Data Decisions, a division of McGraw-Hill. In the late 1980s, she started her own marketing communications company, Techniconnection in Philadelphia. Eventually, she made a career trading stocks.
Janet loved to travel, especially with her husband, Saul. They lived in Paris with their children in the early 1970s. Together, they traveled throughout the world, developing an interest in art and history. Janet's other interests included gardening, finance, local history, and the Middle East. She was also an avid reader. Janet was an exceptionally beautiful woman, whose smile could light up a room. She was also beautiful on the inside. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she provided advice and comfort to all who knew her. She was understanding and loyal, even when loved ones made unorthodox choices.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, Saul Y. Levy, of Philadelphia, Janet is survived by two children, Linda Levy Wood, of Philadelphia, and Jonah D. Levy, of Piedmont, California, and their spouses, Ronald M. Wood and Helga Lilian Ying. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Richard Levy, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her mother, Henrietta Morrison Frankel, who lived to the age of 100, and her father, Sydney Caplan.
Services will be held at noon, Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Avenue in Princeton. She will be interred at the Princeton Cemetery with her beloved grandson, Justin.
