It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of our mother, Janet DeSilva on January 25, 2021. Janet, 86, was formerly of New Rochelle NY.

Janet was born in 1934 in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) where she attended the University and graduated with a Psychology degree. She then became a certified Montessori teacher in Sri Lanka.

Janet came to the United States in 1963, with her family, on a teaching contract for the Montessori School of New Rochelle. She was a Montessori teacher for over 55 years here in the US and Sri Lanka.

The only thing greater than Janet's love for teaching children was her love for cooking and taking care of her family and friends both here and back home.

Predeceased by her husband, Neil DeSilva, she is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Mahendra and  Jodi DeSilva, of Lawrenceville, NJ and Ghian DeSilva and Kim Pettit and their children Naomi, Hunter and Kayla all of East Setauket NY, her sister, 2 brothers and many nieces and nephews in Sri Lanka.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 29, 2021 at Holy Cross Crematory Chapel, Jamesburg, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, a donation, in her memory, to Parkinson's research would be greatly appreciated
