Feng-lai was born in 1936 in Shanshi province, China, to General Wang Jing-kuo and Yang Hwei-sen. As the oldest of five siblings growing up during World War II, she learned from a very young age how to care for others and take charge. She moved to Taipei, Taiwan with her family in 1949, where she earned her bachelor of science degree from Chung-Hsing University in 1959 and taught high school math for several years. In 1966, she moved to the United States to study at the University of Connecticut, where she completed her master of science in biochemistry in 1968. She married Chung-su Wang, also known as Mike, in 1971. She worked for many years as a biochemist at Bristol-Myers Squibb, and was part of the team that discovered Capoten, a breakthrough heart medication. While she and Chung-su never had children, they cared for many others, and were like second parents to their nieces, Judy Ko, Nancy Wang and Hercy Wang. In recent years, she devoted herself to caring for her ailing husband. Feng-lai was a strong, intelligent, determined and giving woman who will be missed by many.
Surviving Feng-lai are her loving husband Chung-su, sister Meilai Ko, brothers Chieh-lai Wang, Fu-lai Wang and Show-lai Wang, as well as nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 10 to 11:30am at the Kimble Funeral Home at 1 Hamilton Avenue, Princeton, NJ.
