Obituary

Emily Young, 90, died peacefully in her home in Meadow Lakes, Hightstown, on May 22. The cause was congestive heart failure.

The only child of Emilie and Wilhelm Keller, she was born in Wilmington, Delaware. After her parents settled in Brooklyn, she remained in the New York City area until her move to New Jersey in 2002. She held a variety of office positions throughout her career, retiring as Personnel Manager at AT&T. A member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she was an active volunteer in her church and community in Rosedale, Queens. She enjoyed world travel with her husband of 57 years, the late Joseph Young, a Battalion Chief in the New York City Fire Department.

She was a talented pianist and singer, crafter and knitter and brought her love of life and color to her surroundings. Intent on being an independent woman, she was always ready to learn and do something new; hence her move to the Meadow Lakes community at the age of 85 enabled her to enjoy library work, Creative Stationary, and the stimulating 7AM Breakfast Club, as well as the friendships of the residents and staff. In her last months, she was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren in displaying her courage and optimism to enjoy life to the fullest. She will be missed.

In January, she celebrated her 90th birthday with her family: daughter Barbara Shapiro and husband Wallace of Monroe Township, son Curtis Young and wife Gail of Colonial Heights, Virginia: granddaughter Beatrice Birrer and husband Robert and great-grandson Kyle of Princeton Junction; grandson Eric Young and wife Tammy with great-grandchildren Tanner and Ashlynne; grandson Jason Young and wife Jamie and great-grandson Carson all of Colonial Heights, Virginia.

A Memorial Service in celebration of her life will be announced. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Meadow Lakes Education Award Fund, 300 Meadow Lakes, East Windsor, NJ 08520, Attn: Alice Kreider

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Kimble Funeral Home, One Hamilton Avenue, Princeton, NJ 08542
