Delano Aloysius
Attride
d. Mar 7, 2026
Monroe Township
Delano Aloysius Attride was born on May 28, 1945, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, to parents Millicent Attride (née Rochester) and Edgerton Attride. Delano passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
Delano obtained a Higher School Certificate (HSC, issued under the English educational standards) in 1963 from St. George's College in Kingston, Jamaica, and later received an Associate Certification from the Institute of Bankers in 1968.
Delano met his beloved wife, Judith Hope Attride (née Gaynair), at the Barclays Bank Training School in 1965. On November 20, 1971, at the age of twenty-six, Delano and Judith (Judy) were married. They went on to have two daughters, Sharon and Selma, and shared a loving marriage that lasted more than five decades.
Delano began a professional career in Jamaica at Barclays Bank, which later became National Commercial Bank. During that time, Delano had the opportunity to live and work in London, U.K.—an experience he spoke about fondly throughout his life.
In 1980, Delano and his family of four migrated to the United States from Jamaica and settled in the Bronx, New York. In 1985, Delano and family relocated to New Jersey and made a home in South Brunswick. Following Sharon's and Selma's graduations from college, Delano and Judith moved to Somerset, New Jersey, where they lived together for many years until Judith's passing in 2022.
After immigrating to the U.S., Delano worked for Irving Trust Bank, which was later acquired by the Bank of New York, where Delano served as a computer programmer and software quality manager. Delano concluded a successful career as an Assistant Vice President, retiring in 2010. Though his family arrived in the United States with little, Delano was proud, determined, and hardworking. Delano's aptitude and intellect led to a successful career through which he was able to support his family, while instilling in Sharon and Selma the importance and value of education. Delano was well-regarded for his intelligence and known for a hearty laugh and fun sense of humor. He loved engaging others in conversation and was often sought out for advice by many who knew that anything Delano said was well-researched. Delano was often reading a new book or challenging personal limits with a cryptic crossword or other puzzle, though less so in later years. He missed one aspect of the thirty-year commute between New York and New Jersey—the time it provided to read on the train.
Delano was also known for his remarkable talent in the kitchen. He loved baking homemade bread and preparing delicious meals for family events, and over the years, became especially known for making ice cream, which Delano perfected with patience and care.
Delano—also known as Lanny/Uncle Lanny, Atty/Uncle Atty, Pops, and Don Delano—was devoted to family and cherished the time they spent together. He missed his beloved wife, Judith, dearly after her passing, and though Delano passed too soon for those left behind, he was ready to be reunited with his beloved Judy again.
Delano was also predeceased by parents, Millicent and Edgerton; sister, Kathleen "Bubbles" Earlington (née Ivers); nephew, Hugh "Muzzy" Johnson; Muzzy's son, Lloyd Johnson; as well as his aunt, Cynthia Elesia "Blossom" Sicard.
Delano will be deeply missed by those who loved him dearly. Delano is survived by daughters, Selma (partner Robert), and Sharon (husband Dale and granddaughters Margaret and Meredith). Delano also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who treasured him: Sandra Pemberton (husband Calvin, children Sasha and Ian, Delano's godson); Cheryl Guillou (husband Ralph, children Kyle and Justin); Karen Sachs (daughter Britney); Althea Bowen (husband Charlton, children Sean and Ryan and their families); and Michael Earlington (children Ayanna, Pierre, Michael and Marcellus); as well as Muzzy's children, Tanya "Nicki" Johnson (child Ezra) and Mark Johnson. Delano also leaves behind cousin, Doritte Sicard, along with many other extended family members and friends.
