Dr. Charles Anthony "Tony" Gordon, age 68, of Hopewell, NJ, died on December 24th,, 2010, in Princeton, New Jersey after a courageous battle against cancer.
Originally from Chicago, Tony became fascinated by the phenomena of the earth's climate and weather systems at an early age. He graduated from the University of Chicago with B.Sc. in 1964, followed by a PhD in Meteorology from MIT . He moved to Princeton in 1972 to work as a research meteorologist at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory. Tony will be remembered for his kind and modest nature and wide interests. He was a loyal and valued friend to many. He was active at community level as a musician, playing the violin. He particularly loved chamber, orchestral , and on occasion, Irish fiddle music. Tony loved being in nature: he was an avid hiker and cross country skier (whenever he could find snow). He had a lifelong interest and active role in peace, and the promotion of social justice and ecology.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Ann O'Connor Gordon, his brother Dr. Jim Gordon and wife Dr. Mary Anne Villegas Gordon, of Florida; nieces Ashling, Natasha, Kassia; nephews, Jeffrey, Peter and Patrick; his cousins; and in-laws, Peter and Sally O'Connor of London, Dr. Richard and Lesley O'Connor of Canada, and his many friends in the USA, Ireland and internationally.
