Bambino Isidonio Martins of New Jersey, son of Bernard and Elvira Martins, née Da Costa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the age of 86.

Bambino was born in Baga, Velim, Goa, India. His early schooling began in Bombay at Don Bosco before earning a Bachelor of Science at St. Xavier's College and going on to postgraduate studies. He subsequently attended the University of California, Berkeley where he completed his PhD in Biophysics and secured NASA funding for his research. He built a thriving and accomplished career as a medical physicist, teaching, conducting research on the health impacts of radiation on the human body, and presenting at various academic conferences, both in the US and abroad. In his spare time, Bambino was an avid reader and writer on his favorite subjects such as politics, Catholicism, and the intersection of science and the Christian faith. As a devoted champion of the Goan diaspora settled in the US, he fostered a sense of community as one of the founding members of GoaNJ, helping to grow this close-knit group from a handful of members to now hundreds. He was also the first editor of the group's newsletter, the Goan Connection.

Above all, Bambino treasured the time he spent with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Wilma Martins, née de Loyola Furtado, also of New Jersey; his son and daughter-in-law, Noel and Lynette Martins of Princeton, New Jersey; his son and daughter-in-law Ian and Karen Martins of South Weymouth, Massachusetts; his son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Janet Martins of Bedford, Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Ayla (16), Caden (14), Ethan (11), Sylvia (10), Evelyn (8), Noble (8) and Honora (6); his sister Lira DaSilva née Martins, of Florida; his sisters-in-law Genevieve Martins of Bombay, India, and Silloo Martins of California; his many nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and close friends both in the US and abroad.

He was predeceased in life by his sisters Sr. Zita Martins and Nina Baretto, née Martins; his brothers-in-law Antonio Dias Baretto and Hubert Da Silva; his brothers Baronio, Blasio, Bismarck, and Bruno Martins; his sister-in-law Linda Martins.
