Audrey W. Mack, 89, died on June 1, 2009 at the Masonic Health Center in Wallingford, Connecticut, on the 25th anniversary of the passing of her beloved husband, C. William Mack.
Audrey was born on December 1, 1919 in Hamden, Connecticut. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Hazel (Tolles) Winkelmann.
Audrey grew up in Coral Gables, FL and Princeton, NJ. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1938 and attended the New Jersey State Teachers College.
Audrey married Bill, her high school sweetheart, in 1941. They raised their family in Rocky Hill, New Jersey. Audrey spent a lifetime of summers at the family cottage at Mansfield Grove in East Haven CT, where she swam with the Colony Swim Club, and where she would play the ukulele with her father and "Uncle Fred" Uihlein around the fireplace overlooking Long Island Sound, with members of "the Grove" joining them for the sing-alongs. She cherished her Mansfield Grove family and friends.
Her love of music and song continued as she sang with local bands in the Princeton area in her younger years.
Audrey worked at Educational Testing Service in Princeton for several years, was a member of the First Reformed Church of Rocky Hill, and a member of the Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
She will be missed by her 3 daughters; Lynne Blydenburgh and her husband David of Princeton, NJ, Karen Maestrini and her husband David of Meriden, CT, with whom she most recently resided, Donna Spafford of Covington, KY, and one son, David Mack and his wife Ellyn of Bridport, VT. She was a loving grandmother to Joanne Baloga of Madison, CT, Bethann Volpicella and husband Frank of Hamilton, NJ, David Maestrini, Jr. and wife Krischa of Willow Springs, NC, Kristie Maestrini of Meriden, CT, Jeffrey Spafford of Arlington, Texas and Jared Spafford of Houston, Texas, Katy Peterson and husband Tim of Helena, Montana, Corey Mack of Winooski, VT, Kicha Foster and husband Adam of Vernon, CT, Miya Barosso and husband George of Waltham, MA, and Jana McQueeney of Bridport, VT, and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear friends Hilde and Bud Lewis of Rocky Hill, NJ and George "Podie" Uihlein of Mansfield Grove and Woodbridge, CT, her dear cousin June Erich Brown of Mansifield Grove and Cheshire, CT., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Roy C. Winkelmann of Utah, and her sister, Carol Ann Tash of Florida, and her best friend, Ellen "Zoopie" Uihlein Fisher of Mansfield Grove and Branford, CT.
Audrey pictured a wooden picnic table in heaven, where all her friends from "The Grove" were sitting and waiting for her, saying their party wouldn't be the same until she arrived. She has now, and their good times can begin.
Our family cannot put into words the love, respect, admiration and gratitude for all the staff at the Masonic Healthcare Center, especially the staff of Wooster 3, the Hospice workers and volunteers. You all know who you are. You are indeed angels on earth. God bless all of you.
