Arthur G. Smith's Obituary
Arthur G. Smith of Hillsborough, NJ passed away at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the age of 74. He was born in Hackensack, NJ and grew up in Rahway, NJ. He received his Associates in Mechanical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering (NJIT). He enjoyed his work as Machine Designer for over fifty years and recently retired from CTC International of West Caldwell, NJ.
Art, as he was known to his friends and family had an ease and calmness about him, with the ability to make anyone feel at home with his great smile and wonderful sense of humor. He thoroughly enjoyed working, yet his true happiness came from spending time with his family and friends. He and Frances enjoyed life at home with their two horses and a menagerie of spirited Boston terriers. He enjoyed being outdoors, taking care of the horses, camping, canoeing and whitewater rafting. One of his favorite past times, was to be around a campfire with family, friends with good conversation and a cold beer. He enjoyed the simple things life had to offer. He had an extremely analytical mind balanced with a generous nature. He was known as "Captain" to his younger peers when he worked for Ingersoll Rand in Skillman, NJ, not because of a hierarchy but because of his innate ability to bring a diverse group of people together and have a great time.
He is survived by his wife Frances Niper, his children, their spouses, sisters, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Children and spouses: Arthur R. Smith and Gina, Virginia Smith and Anders, Wayne Seals and Marcel, Robert Seals and Fawn, Debbie Mosley and Kurt. Sisters: Jeanne Dunne and Diane Dwelle. Grandchildren: Arthur Smith, Franki Rose Smith, Amanda Seals, Angela Seals, Tammy and Betsy Brooks, Ashley Anderson and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM and Wednesday from 12:30PM to 1:30PM. The funeral will begin on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 1:30PM followed by a burial at Franklin Memorial Park, 1800 State Rt. 27, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.
