Anne S.
Ford
d. Aug 28, 2025
Princeton
Anne S. Ford, affectionately known as Nancy to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025, while listening to her favorite choral music. Born on September 2, 1935, in New York City, she was just days away from her 90th birthday. Nancy made her home in Princeton, New Jersey, where she found community, friendship, and love. A devoted and active member of Princeton life, she contributed generously through her involvement in the Present Day Club, the Springdale Golf Club, and the Nassau Club.
Nancy was a fiercely independent spirit and a woman ahead of her time. She attended Miss Fine's School (now Princeton Day School) until 1951 and graduated from Eden Hall School for Girls in Philadelphia. After high school, she spent several summers working on a ranch and climbing the mountains around Jackson Hole, Wyoming—always proud to have summited the Grand Teton. Music, theater, and acting were her passions, and she remained a devoted patron of the arts throughout her life. Early in her career, she served as general manager of both the Alvin Ailey City Center Dance Theater and the McCarter Theatre. Decades later, she continued her love of music as the volunteer treasurer of the Trenton Children's Chorus in the 2000s.
She married George C. Ford on October 19, 1974, and together they shared more than 35 years of love and adventure. Traveling was among their greatest joys, whether just the two of them or alongside cherished friends. Each year they returned to Saas-Fee, Switzerland, to hike the Alps, and to the Caribbean to sail. Their journeys carried them to other unforgettable places: kayaking down Idaho's Salmon River, exploring the pyramids of Egypt, and drifting through the floating markets of Bangkok.
Another of Nancy's great passions was family history—her own and that of her community. She had a boundless curiosity about the lives and stories of those around her and a remarkable gift for remembering them. Her encyclopedic memory, paired with her genuine interest in others, made her a keeper of connections and histories for family and friends alike.
Nancy is survived by her five stepchildren (Greta, Paul, Ted, Thomas, and George Ford) and their partners (Tara Sumner), grandchildren (Eric, Nick, and Wesley Hayton; Chloe and Alexander Ford) and great grandchildren (Ashley and Amanda Hayton; and Elle Ford); her sister-in-law, Dorothy (Dede) Shannon; and her beloved nieces (Henrietta, Caitlin, Emily, and Courtney Shannon) and nephews (Michael and Lawrence Shannon) and great nieces and nephews (Sam, Addy, Meghan and Peter Shannon; Aine Masoko; Julian and Audrey Aliperti). She was predeceased by her husband (George Ford), parents (Jean and A. Vernon Shannon) and three brothers (Brian, Christopher, and Mickey).
A funeral service will be held on September 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Princeton, New Jersey, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Capital Harmony Works (Trenton Children's Chorus) at https://www.capitalharmony.works/donate.
