Joseph William Scharfenberger, former Trust Officer in the trust real estate department of Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, died peacefully at home in Willow Spring, NC, July 27, 2012.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on October 14, 1921, Mr. Scharfenberger served 4 years in the US Army with the 323rd Wildcat Division Infantry from 1942-1946 during WWII in the Pacific including Japan.

Mr. Scharfenberger spent his childhood in Ridgewood, Queens and graduated from Grover Cleveland High School and Plaza Business School in Queens, New York.

Over the past 22 years the Scharfenbergers resided in Lakehurst New Jersey and were part-time residents in Princeton, NJ.

Mr. Scharfenberger is survived by his wife of 65 years Irene Marie Vieten, six children and nine grandchildren with nine great grandchildren.

The couple’s six children include Joseph Scharfenberger of Lloyd Harbour, New York, Dr. Peter Scharfenberger , Garden City, NY, Irene Browne of Willow Spring, NC, Doris Shea, Princeton, NJ, Gerard Scharfenberger of Middletown, NJ and Michael Scharfenberger of Richmond, TX.

Visiting hours are Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Avenue, Princeton, NJ (609 924 0018).

Burial is on Friday August 3, 2012, at 1PM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA with a military honor guard ceremony following an 11:00am Mass at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Princeton, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to 3HC Hospice, 723 S. Third St., Suite C, Smithville, NC 27577.
