Edward I. Howard died suddenly June 16, 2012 in Princeton, NJ. He was 54 years old.
Born in Buffalo on December 7, 1957, Mr. Howard was a 1975 graduate of Canisius High School. While at Canisius High School, Edward was a true "Crusader". He earned All-Catholic honors in football and the high jump in track and field, second team All-Catholic honors in basketball, Academic Athletic recognition in basketball, third team All State in football and he was chosen Canisius Athlete of the year by his fellow classmates. Edward continued his education at Hobart College in Geneva, NY earning his Bachelor Degree. He later received a Certificate of Insurance for Executive Development from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. At Hobart College, he was a basketball recruit who traded the basketball for a lacrosse stick and the rest became history.
Edward became a "stifling defenseman". He was a four year letter winner and a member of Hobart’s first two NCAA Championship teams. Edward also earned second team All-American honors in his junior year, first team in his senior year and was Co-Captain. He received "The Babe Kraus Memorial Trophy" as Hobart’s most outstanding senior athlete and "The Graham Award" for the team’s best athlete. He was selected to play in the annual North/South Lacrosse All Star games. Edward also received "The Roger Frankel Award" for most contributing senior to his college community. Edward was inducted into Canisius High School "Sport Hall of Fame" in 1998 and Hobart College "Hall of Fame" in 2003 and he served on the Board of Directors of the Hobart Statesman Athletic Assoc. Edward enjoyed golf, tennis, bike riding and traveling.
Edward began his career as an account analyst with Aetna, Inc. then worked with The Hartford Specialty Company, where he was the highest ranking minority, from 1986 until 1996. For the next four years he continued his career at Swiss Re America and from 2000 until the time of his death, Edward was Vice- President and manager of Reinsurance for Chubb and Son.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife, of 28 years, Donna Howard; 2 daughters, Ashley and Lindsey Howard; his mother Anna May Howard; his sister Andrea Howard of Buffalo, NY; goddaughter Kelley Howard of Hempstead, LI.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Kimble Funeral Home, One Hamilton Avenue, Princeton, NJ 08542. Services are private.
